Superintendent - Utilities

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Utility Superintendent to oversee utility-related operations on large-scale civil construction projects. This role is responsible for supervising field crews, coordinating with internal and external teams, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise utility work on designated project areas, ensuring compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Plan work methods, materials, equipment needs, and schedules.
  • Coordinate with field engineers, estimators, and utility companies to identify and mitigate site hazards.
  • Present production work plans and ensure alignment across project teams.
  • Monitor and forecast schedules, providing recommendations to resolve production issues.
  • Provide technical input to address construction risks, safety concerns, and material requirements.
  • Document daily activities and maintain accurate project records.
  • Enforce safety protocols and process controls across the job site.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Oversee project closeout activities in accordance with standards and client expectations.
  • Participate in hiring, training, performance reviews, and conflict resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of heavy civil construction experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet company driving criteria.
  • Proven ability to manage complex construction projects and lead teams of up to 7 people.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction equipment, safety protocols, and site operations.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and apply mathematical concepts.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in underground utilities, site development, and civil infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software and construction documentation tools.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with crew members, clients, and community stakeholders.
