Superintendent required for new Bridge Rehab project on Long Island

Your new company

My client is a leading family-owned heavy civil contractor based just outside Mineola, NY. They specialize in all aspects of Heavy Civil Construction projects and have secured a number of new key projects in Bridge Rehabilitation and are seeking an on-site Superintendent to run them.

Your new role

Your role will be to provide overall leadership for on-site construction, including direct supervision of traders, subcontractors, and other construction-related personnel. Direct them in planning, coordination and execution of work to be on time and within budget while maintaining a safe workplace and promoting client relationships.

Responsibilities include:
  • Utilize drawings and submittals to create detailed work plans, including required manpower, equipment, and small tools and supplies needed to complete all tasks.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure that materials are on-site when needed, and ensure that work is being completed safely and that the quality of work performed exceeds expectations.
  • Compile timesheets weekly and assign labor hours to cost codes to ensure labor dollars are being accurately tracked.
  • Take the lead on site safety and ensure there are no issues / violations.

What you'll need to succeed

  • 5+ years of experience in civil construction, including exposure to bridge / structural rehabilitation.
  • Ability to travel up to an hour locally.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and ability to create a job hazard analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project/Excel/Outlook, and other basic computer software.
  • Working experience on public sector construction projects on Long Island or New York City.
  • Experience building crews, including assisting in recruiting, training, and retaining tradesmen.
  • Developing 2-week look-ahead schedules to assist in forecasting labor expenses and man-hour needs.
