Our client is seeking a Senior Scientist in Cambridge, MA.

Role Description

• As a Scientist II/Senior Scientist you will contribute to drug discovery efforts for multiple therapeutic areas including neurology and immunology. You will conduct biophysical analysis and perform recombinant protein purification for early discovery research programs. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to the Protein Sciences team.
You like to work in an environment where you can:
• Apply your scientific expertise to provide innovative approaches for production of high-quality purified proteins across diverse protein classes, including membrane proteins and non-antibody proteins
• Use your strong communication skills to collaborate with scientific teams across the organization to advance pre-clinical drug targets.
• Engage with emerging project science and therapeutic modalities
You will contribute by:
• Purifying high quality recombinant cytosolic, secreted, membrane and refolded proteins and validating these proteins with quality control experiments such as HPLC and mass spectrometry as well as binding and enzymatic assays with other project team members.
• Performing biophysical analysis of proteins and/or protein complexes using mass spectrometry and other biophysical techniques.
• Applying your subject matter expertise to innovate and drive protein purification strategies and biophysical analysis to support our pipeline of drug discovery projects.
• Contributing to project team meetings by communicating experimental results and advising on best methods to generate protein reagents for downstream applications including but not limited to biophysical characterization, structural biology, assay development, screening, hit identification and immunization.

Skills & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in related field (biochemistry, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology, or biophysics) + 2-4 years’
experience, BS or MS + 6-12 years’ experience (including industry experience of 4 years)
Extensive use of mass spectrometry instruments and maintenance, as well experience with other biophysical
techniques.
Strong experience using AKTA purification platform and current knowledge of purification methods and
protocols.
Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and enthusiasm for learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
High proficiency with Waters BioAccord mass spectrometer or equivalent is preferred.
Understanding and application of biophysical techniques, such as light scattering (mass photometry), thermal shift assay, fluorescence spectroscopy, and others are an asset.

Knowledge of upstream and downstream processes such as molecular biology, cell culture and protein
expression, structural biology and biophysics, and/or assay development.
Familiarity with drug discovery and how protein reagents fit into the process
Appreciation of critical path activities and resource prioritization that support project progression.
