Our client is seeking a Software Engineer – Web UI Dev in Richmond, VA.
Role Description
We are seeking a hands-on Web UI Developer / Software Engineer to enhance and support the web application, an Azure-hosted modernization platform that consolidates Python-based illustration modules into a secure web application through app service and API layer. The application’s data is stored in Azure PostgreSQL and synchronized from upstream sources via Azure Synapse Pipelines and Delta Lake. The engineer will contribute to feature delivery, bug fixes, and steady-state operations, partnering closely with architecture and security, to deliver releases through GitLab CI/CD.
You will be part of a cross functional squad that designs, builds and supports data workflows and pipelines that power analytics, possible AI and operational insights.
• Develop and enhance the Flask-based web application that consolidates multiple Python functions/modules into a cohesive web experience.
• Maintain/support the JavaScript layer of the Flask-based UI, ensuring modular, maintainable code that integrates cleanly with backend APIs
• Build and maintain backend API endpoints used for orchestration of application traffic and business workflows.
• Implement secure database access patterns (parameterized SQL, safe query practices) against Azure PostgreSQL
• Conduct and/or participate in design sessions to gather enhanced/updated requirements and translate them into implementable UI/API stories and technical tasks.
• Maintain and refine current solution design in alignment with evolving business needs and security constraints.
• Support and maintain the containerized Flask application and underlying Python scripts for consistent deployment across environments.
• Support Azure App Service Environment (ASE) deployment patterns and app connectivity to PostgreSQL and storage services as required by the platform architecture.
• Contribute to CI/CD design and implementation using GitLab pipelines, including build, test, security scanning, and automated deployments.
• Partner with DevOps/platform teams on gated promotions across environments and release readiness practices.
• Provide ongoing support to troubleshoot and resolve UI, backend, and cloud-related issues: triage defects, implement fixes, and deliver incremental enhancements.
• Collaborate on operational readiness: logging/monitoring hooks, smoke tests, and deployment validation in support of reliable releases.
• Own your work: from development through testing and deployment
• Document requirements, logic, and enhancement details for knowledge sharing and support
Skills & Requirements
• Hands-on experience with Flask for building web applications and APIs (UI + backend orchestration)
• Experience in API design/integration, including request/response modeling, validation, error handling, and integration patterns
• Experience in JavaScript for Flask based UIs and python scripts
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for Flask based UIs
• Experience with modern JS frameworks (React, Angular, Vue)
• Experience deploying and supporting applications on Azure App Service
• Understanding of application configuration, environment separation, and cloud runtime behavior
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, build, test, security gates, deployment, and promotion
• Ability to work independently, mentor junior engineers, and influence technical decisions
• Familiarity with Azure Synapse Pipelines and data ingestion patterns (awareness of upstream dependencies)
• Python, Azure App Service, Flask (if not flask - FAST Api or Jengo)
• Postgress
• Goal is to have interviews scheduled for next week - this is a top priority to the team
