Our client is seeking a Smart Technologies Project Manager in Greenwood Village, CO
Role Description
• All companies have different product models. We combine traditional P&L responsibilities with Development in the same organization. At Spectrum Business, our team is responsible for Managed Services – which translates to – “what are other ways we can make money at a customer location after we sell them Internet”. Our services include everything from managed appliances, to security cameras, to WiFi Hotspots, to 5G backup, to fire/water/air quality sensors, and a whole host of managed applications which help Spectrum customer derive additional value (for example, license plate identification software and dashboards to complement parking lot cameras which detect who is in the office that day). We have wide range of customers nationwide, but have been especially successful selling WiFi, Internet, and TV services to Arenas, Schools, Churches, Colleges, and most importantly Hotel Properties. We want to move beyond these Big 3” services and start providing wider range of offers to these customers (ideas include door locks, robot vacuums, car charging, in-hotel video monitoring, location analytics, digital signages, and other possibilities to leverage AI in these environments for better economics, efficiencies, and experiences). The successful candidate will play a large role in defining our next generation products.
We are considering new business lines to invest in over the next couple of years specifically in the Hotel, Church, Arena, and Higher Education verticals. We would prefer candidates who have worked for, or with, these kinds of customers in their job histories. Successful candidate could spend up to 50% of time initially doing competitive & market research to identify and evaluate opportunities to expand our managed services portfolio. These ideas will be collected in a written artifact which reduces discovered data to a set of recommendations with an associated business case which identifies the market opportunity, our potential credible share of that market, and a path to bringing something to market within 12 months. This document would serve as a blueprint which the candidate will execute upon as product owner.
All seriously considered candidates will be asked to produce a previously (or newly) created artifact which demonstrates an ability to deliver a high quality business plan – ideally with follow-on perspective of how that idea was sold to leadership and eventually translated to an actual business initiative + what results were generated. If candidate does not have previous material (we are ok with abstracting some previous document to not reveal any sensitive information) we can provide a prompt for a new response. We may ask for this before any scheduled interview, so it can be included in the discussion topics.
Ideal candidate should have a balance of technical and business skills but will be more MBA centric vs. emphasis on Agile/Scrum type background. We do have an expectation that research will lead to a development role to bring a product/service to market which will require feature/capabilities development and management of an extended core team to ultimately deliver the required service experience and business results. Think of this as a “discover, recommend, create, and implement” opportunity.
Skills & Requirements
• Direct work in a hospitality/school system/arena/or higher education environment with an understanding of typical challenges and buying motions for these customer types. Alternately, could be in a service provider environment (although would not have to be network serviced provider) which catered to these types of customers. For example, we might consider an IT director for a hotel management company or large university who was directly involved in technology buying and budgeting decisions who wants to move to the supplier side.
MBA or significant experience developing business models, understanding Investment rates of returns, crafting position papers on various topics, and evaluating partnership opportunities. Specific Telco or CableCo experience is not a requirement. We will have bias for candidates who have demonstrated an entrepreneurial mindset but are “numbers people” at their core. Excellent presentation skills is mandatory.
Previous experience taking projects from ideation to successful market deployment measured in $M+ in annual revenue. Since we operate a $100M a year plus business unit, we are looking for candidates who understand the scope and scale of a business with 1000s of customers added each month.
5-7 with Specialized Skills years of experience.
Valuable to have experience/familiarity with:
• Smart spaces
• IOT sensors / IOT management
• Asset tracking
• Location services / indoor navigation / AI Maps
• Occupancy analytics
• Environmental monitoring
• Sustainable meeting rooms
• Smart logistics
• AI-powered insights
• Personalized experiences
• Behavioural metrics
• Building-management systems
