Registered Nurse – Contract – Remote – $40.00-$45.00/hr

Skills & Requirements

• The Utilization Management Nurse Reviewer is responsible for the day-to-day timely clinical and service authorization first level review for medical necessity and decision-making utilizing appropriate criteria.

• The Utilization Management Nurse Reviewer works with healthcare providers to ensure appropriate approval of plan benefits. The Nurse Reviewer utilizes clinical information provided to assess medical necessity and the appropriateness of the treatment setting through the application of appropriate policies and criteria (InterQual). Case assignments for review may fall into various subsets; Initial and Concurrent Inpatient Services, Precertification, Discharge planning, Post-Acute Care including Long Term Acute Care (LTAC), Rehabilitation (SNF) and Retrospective review.

• Current Active and Unrestricted Nursing License required (Associate Degree, Nursing Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing)

• 3 years combined clinical and utilization management experience in a managed health care plan preferred

• CA license preferred to start- if not, RN will have to obtain CA License.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred with 3-5 years of clinical experience in Utilization Review

• Required experience in utilization management to include utilization review, discharge planning, transitional care, and skilled nursing review.

• Knowledge of Medicaid, Commercial and or Medicare Managed Care programs and regulations

• Experience using and applying InterQual and other designated clinical guidelines

• Understanding and utilization of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) within various managed care settings

• Excellent analytical thinking/problem-solving skills

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities, deadlines, and workloads

• Excellent interpersonal skills, to include written and oral communication
