Purchasing Agent | Procurement Specialist — NYC Contractor — Concrete, Masonry, Drywall, Carpentry, Plaster

Your new company

I am partnered with a leading New York specialty contractor specializing across interior and structural projects for some of the world’s most prominent brands across finance, media, government, and retail sectors, with clients including RXR, Google, NYU, Sony, UBS, Citibank, Silverstein Properties to name but a few.

Their legacy in NYC spans three decades, with them being founded in the 1980’s with the firm delivering across complex scopes—ranging from concrete and masonry to drywall, carpentry, fireproofing, lath, acoustics, and specialty plaster finishes—on projects valued up to $40 million.

Estimators and construction professionals here thrive in a collaborative environment where expertise, efficiency, and attention to detail are at the core of every build, and where your skills will be valued and developed as part of a dynamic, growth-focused team.

Your new role

As a Purchasing Agent, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting multiple construction projects across New York, working closely with project management, estimating, and field teams.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Conduct market research to identify and evaluate suppliers for construction materials, equipment, and subcontracted services

  • Prepare and issue bid documents, manage the full procurement cycle, and negotiate pricing and contract terms.

  • Analyze cost proposals and ensure all purchases comply with company policies and safety regulations.

  • Coordinate deliveries, monitor inventory, and resolve supply chain issues to keep projects on track

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, support cost analysis and reporting, and contribute to continuous improvement in procurement practices.

  • Adapt quickly to changing project needs and proactively solve problems in a fast-paced environment.

This is a hands-on role that requires strong communication with vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, as well as the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll need to succeed

To excel in the role of Purchasing Agent, you’ll bring at least 2–5 years of experience in construction purchasing or procurement, with either a general contractor or subcontractor based in the tri-state area, with prior experience of NYC construction projects. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field is preferred. The successful individual should be comfortable communicating with various vendors and negotiating pricing whilst managing contract documents. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and a proactive communicator who thrives under pressure and is eager to contribute to high-profile projects throughout the city.

What you'll get in return

Our client has a very competitive compensation and benefits package including an annual performance bonus, medical, dental, and 401K plus employer match and a generous PTO package.
