Mission Critical Lead Mechanical Engineer

A well-established multidisciplinary design and consulting firm is seeking a Senior Engineering Project Manager with a background in engineering (Professional Engineer preferred). The ideal candidate will have 10–15 years of experience managing the design and implementation of technology-driven building projects across various sectors. This full-time hybrid (4 days in) position is based in Midtown Manhattan and involves overseeing complex projects from concept through construction.


Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10–15 years in the architecture/engineering (A/E) industry, including 5–10 years in a project management role
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (mechanical or electrical)
  • Demonstrated experience with technically complex building types
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and internal teams effectively
  • Experience handling multiple concurrent design and restoration projects
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial oversight for both internal and client-facing budgets
  • Deep understanding of A/E disciplines and cross-disciplinary coordination
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Field experience with construction principles and best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD
  • Ability to provide client references


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage architectural and engineering processes from initial concept to project completion
  • Develop proposals, including scope of services, man-hour estimates, and consultant coordination
  • Facilitate client and internal team meetings, prepare agendas, and distribute meeting notes within two business days
  • Monitor project budgets and man-hours weekly, ensuring alignment with project progress
  • Coordinate design efforts across disciplines, lead weekly design meetings, and issue action items
  • Oversee construction administration, including site observations and communication between contractors and design teams
  • Maintain strong client relationships, anticipate needs, and provide proactive solutions
  • Support business development efforts, including presentations and relationship-building with new and existing clients
  • Conduct condition assessments and prepare reports with cost estimates
  • Manage production of complete construction documents (drawings, specifications, sketches)
  • Coordinate with structural, civil, acoustical, and other disciplines
  • Travel as needed for site evaluations, construction meetings, and quality reviews
  • Handle contractor submittals and respond to RFIs with clear design intent
