Our client is seeking a Mainframe Developer in Richmond, VA

Role Description

The person selected will initially work on an Agile team, executing projects for the CLOAS application. The individual needs to be proficient in providing technical solutions for large and complex mainframe applications. The role will involve extensive collaboration with other developers, Business Analysts and QA members on the team as well as with Business Partners, IT Architect and other IT teams.
CLOAS is a mainframe-based application and is the core system for Long Term Care Policy Administration. The CLOAS application sits at the center of all policy processing for the business and contains the data and business logic for all customer service operations. The system integrates with many peripheral systems utilizing various technologies including Web Services and MQ. The CLOAS team uses Agile development methodologies and is actively implementing modern tools for development and testing. It is amongst the most active systems, with multiple ongoing enhancements and upgrades to support evolving business needs.

• Work in an Agile team alongside other developers, Quality Assurance associates and business systems analyst to create technical solutions for business requirements
• Collaborate with the team to plan the Sprint backlog, story pointing, and break down tasks into smaller, manageable pieces
• Design, Code, Document and Test the solution ensuring that it meets acceptance criteria, does not cause unintended impact and fits within the overall technical architecture. Support your changes through the testing process, assist with test planning, defect resolution and technical system activities. Implement the solution following the established change control process
• Perform unit testing, system testing, and integration testing to ensure code quality and compliance with requirements
• Support deployment activities and post product validations
• Analyze incidents and issues assigned to the team, determine the impact of the issue and come up with solution proposals to formulate the right approach to solve the problem.
• When needed, support the Long Term Care policy administration system, by monitoring the system, resolving failures, job abends, policy related incidents, system defects, and by maintaining the interactions of the application with peripheral systems.
• Perform administrative duties in conjunction with the departmental requirements (participate in meetings, agile ceremonies (Stand Ups, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives etc.), respond to correspondence in a timely manner, provide status updates, review/update/submit tickets, participate in change management activities).
• Work and collaborate with the team to ensure work is completed in a timely manner considering their severity, impact and urgency. Assist team members in resolving technical problems.

Skills & Requirements

• 4-year college degree and/or relevant equivalent experience with strong mainframe (COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS) programming skills and production support experience preferably in insurance/finance domain.
• Excellent analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset, with ability to understand complex business logic, analyze the system and data, to identify changes needed, and understand impact of changes on the various products and system functionalities.
• Basic experience with SQL and data analysis.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team environment on a complex mainframe system and having good problem-solving skills and a results-oriented outlook.
• Good communication skills ability to work with various stakeholders, managing concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
• A continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to adapt to new technologies and ways of working
• Knowledge of Assembler programming in the IBM Mainframe environment
• Working knowledge of CLOAS Policy Administration System
• Practical knowledge of LTC insurance products and premiums
• Experience in a managed services environment, working with an onshore-offshore model, managing SLA’s and work queues.
• Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban)
• IMS database experience in an MVS and CICS environment
• Advanced SQL programming experience
• Experience with modern mainframe development and testing tools
• 2+ years of experience with Mainframe Development using Cobol, CICS, JCL, SQL
• Must work East Coast Hours

Bachelor’s degree required
• Great communication and collaboration skills
