Your new company
HAYS has partnered with a leading employee-owned firm with over 50 years of experience transforming the built environment. The mission is to make buildings more sustainable, energy-efficient, accessible, healthy, and resilient, not just with better structures, but as assets to the communities they serve. Join a company where your work helps shape a better-built environment and where your voice matters.
Your new role
As an HVAC Consultant and Instructor within the Building Operations, Decarbonization & Efficiency team in NYC, you’ll wear two hats: technical training instructor and consultant.
- Educator / Trainer: Teach building professionals from facility managers to junior engineers, through in-person and virtual instruction, equipping them with the skills to achieve energy goals. Shape training content, develop materials, and mentor junior colleagues as they grow into educators.
- Consultant: Depending on your experience and interests, you’ll also engage in energy assessments, lead retrofit projects, commission buildings, and participate in field research on Domestic Hot Water (DHW) technology.
What you'll need to succeed
- 8+ years of relevant experience, with 5+ years in HVAC systems for large multi-family or commercial buildings
- Prior experience designing and delivering training for adult professionals, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable content
- Deep expertise in HVAC systems and emerging high-performance technologies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to engage diverse stakeholders
- Proven success leading and delivering multiple medium-sized projects, including stakeholder and team coordination
- Ability to deliver both in-person and virtual training sessions
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite
Bonus skills/experience:
- Familiarity with NYC Local Laws related to energy and climate (LLs 84, 87, 95, and 97)
- Knowledge of Energy Code and/or ASHRAE standards
- Experience with steam heating systems, electrification, and deep energy retrofit concepts
- Bilingual, with Spanish preferred; additional languages a plus
What you'll get in return
- Compensation: $100,000 – $155,000 annual salary (based on a 40-hour work week; final salary commensurate with experience)
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Paid time off, parental leave, and inclusive holidays
- Professional development and internal training opportunities
- Flexible work environment, with in-office presence expected at least three days per week
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities
