Your new role
The Lead Estimator will oversee and coordinate comprehensive estimating efforts for large-scale, complex heavy civil construction projects across Texas. This role involves managing the full bid and proposal process, working closely with a team that includes estimators, administrative support, and senior management. Responsibilities include developing competitive proposals, incorporating value engineering alternatives, preparing CPM schedules, delivering formal presentations, and participating in final negotiations with clients and construction managers. The Lead Estimator is expected to manage approximately 25 to 50 estimates annually, with individual project values ranging from $5 million to $100 million.
What you'll need to succeed
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred; however, a combination of relevant technical training and substantial industry experience may also be considered.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating, cost control, or engineering within the construction industry is required, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead estimator capacity.
- Prior experience with Design-Build and/or Best Value contract delivery methods is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to estimate a wide range of project types and contract structures, along with demonstrated leadership in coordinating and managing team efforts, is essential.
- Must be capable of developing complex project proposals with guidance from senior leadership. This role carries direct responsibility for project profitability and financial performance.
- Specialized experience in heavy civil and foundation demolition, excavation, support of excavation systems, drilling, concrete work, site utilities, and infrastructure improvements for TXDOT and other local agencies is strongly preferred.
