Project Engineer / Field Engineer – Heavy Civil (FDOT & Infrastructure)
A well-established heavy civil contractor with a long-standing presence in Central Florida is adding a Project Engineer / Field Engineer to support a growing backlog of roadway and FDOT infrastructure work.
This role is ideal for an engineer with real field experience who’s ready to move beyond day‑to‑day support and start owning larger pieces of the project—with a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager.
You’ll work alongside experienced superintendents and PMs who value field input and actively develop engineers for long‑term leadership roles.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Managing key project controls: quantities, cost tracking, procurement support, and progress reporting
Supporting field operations through layout coordination, short‑term planning, and production problem‑solving
Working directly with superintendents and PMs to help sequence work and maintain production goals
Handling RFIs, submittals, material tracking, and document control
Assisting with subcontractor coordination and ensuring work aligns with plans, specs, and safety standards
Splitting time between the field and office to stay connected to real production—not just paperwork
Why Engineers Step Into This Role (and Stay)
Clear progression to Assistant Project Manager with increasing autonomy
Exposure to FDOT, roadway, and infrastructure projects—not one‑off jobs
Consistent backlog across Central Florida with minimal overnight travel
Hands‑on mentorship from senior PMs and superintendents invested in developing future leaders
Involvement across planning, execution, and close‑out, not just one phase
Stable contractor with repeat work and long‑term growth plans in Florida
What They’re Looking For
2–5+ years as a Project Engineer or Field Engineer with a heavy civil contractor
Background in roadway, bridge, utilities, or FDOT‑regulated projects
Strong understanding of plans, specs, quantities tracking, and field operations
Ability to work closely with field teams while keeping documentation organized
Someone motivated to grow into project management or operational leadership
Note: Candidates without prior heavy civil experience will not be considered.
Compensation & Benefits
Above‑market salary based on experience
Performance‑based bonus opportunities
Full benefits package
Long‑term career development with real advancement opportunity—not a title change
