Our client is seeking a Sr. DevOps Engineer in Richmond, VA.
Role Description
The DevOps Engineer provides operational and engineering support for companies’ application and infrastructure environments. This role partners with development, infrastructure, and security teams to support cloud and hybrid systems, assist with automation and deployment processes, and help maintain system reliability and performance.
The DevOps Engineer applies expanded technical knowledge while continuing to develop proficiency in DevOps practices, tools, and organizational processes. Work is performed within established architectures, standards, and procedures, with guidance from more senior engineers as needed.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of secure, scalable, and reliable cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments in alignment with established standards.
• Collaborate with development and engineering teams to support application deployments, performance, and operational stability.
• Assist with automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and deployment processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
• Support the operation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, helping ensure reliable and low-disruption deployments.
• Monitor system performance and availability using established monitoring, logging, and alerting tools; respond to alerts and escalate issues as appropriate.
• Perform routine troubleshooting and analysis of infrastructure and application issues, following documented procedures and best practices.
• Maintain and update technical documentation for systems, processes, and operational procedures.
• Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours support as required, following established escalation and incident response processes.
Skills & Requirements
• 2+ years of hands-on experience supporting DevOps, infrastructure, or cloud-based
• Practical experience working with a public cloud platform (Microsoft Azure preferred).
• Experience supporting CI/CD tools and workflows (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git, YAML pipelines).
• Working knowledge of scripting or automation languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, C#, .NET, T-SQL or similar).
• Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Puppet or similar).
• Familiarity with container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and basic exposure to orchestration concepts.
• Understanding of basic networking, operating systems, and virtualization concepts.
• Ability to work effectively within established processes, standards, and technical guidance.
• Experience using monitoring and logging tools (Azure Monitor, Splunk, AppDynamics) to support system health and issue resolution.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for resolving standard technical issues.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Exposure to Kubernetes or managed container platforms.
• Familiarity with application and infrastructure security best practices.
• Experience with load balancers (Azure Load Balancer, Application Gateway, Kemp), API management platforms (Azure API Management, Apigee), or content management systems (WordPress, Umbraco).
• Experience working in Agile or DevOps-oriented team environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-900, AZ-104, AZ-204) or progress toward certification is preferred
• General office demands
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Frequent reaching, handling, and fine manipulation for using office equipment, filing, and managing paperwork.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other office tools.
• Occasional standing, walking, and bending.
• Ability to lift up to 10-20 pounds occasionally.
• Vision abilities required include close vision for computer work and reading documents.
