Your new role
- Examine work order and drawing of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements
- Select and install tooling in tool posts, turrets, indexing heads, or automatic tool change magazines in the sequence specified on program printout.
- Mount the workpiece in the chuck, on fixtures, between centers or to a faceplate.
- Proofread the program to verify dimensions, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts
- Monitor machine performance - make necessary adjustments to feeds and speeds
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, etc.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
- May perform flame cutting or arc welding operations when required
- Willingness to cross-train and perform other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position
What you'll need to succeed
- 4 years’ experience in a general machine shop
- Ability to run CNC lathes, mills, and drill presses
- Must have an understanding of mechanics, basic metallurgy, tolerance, tools, mathematics, layout and machine procedures
- Must be able to interpret blueprints
- Must have knowledge of tooling geometry and replacement or sharpening practice
- Must have the ability to follow written or verbal instructions
- Computer skills: ability to use the computer for time-tracking purposes and manipulating programs
