CFO Position Available in Lansing, Michigan! Full-time In-Office

The CFO serves as a key executive leader within a privately held, family‑owned real estate and development organization. This role blends strategic vision with hands‑on financial and operational oversight. The ideal candidate brings exceptional integrity, strong business judgment, the ability to handle highly confidential information, and the capacity to balance detail orientation with big‑picture thinking. Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Management
  • Recruit, hire, train, and directly manage finance team members.
  • Meet regularly with direct reports to track progress and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage and oversee outsourced functions as needed.
  • Protect sensitive financial information and maintain strict confidentiality.
Financial Strategy & Oversight
  • Lead the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, tax filings, and regulatory reports.
  • Compare actual performance to sales, profit projections, and budgeted expenses; recommend and implement adjustments.
  • Evaluate and improve financial planning processes.
  • Analyze business operations to identify opportunities for restructuring, cost savings, and efficiency improvements.
  • Work with ownership to set priorities and guide long-term financial planning.
  • Oversee annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasts, and monthly variance reporting.
  • Collaborate with ownership and operational leadership to negotiate commercial financing and manage lender relationships.
  • Review and approve loan documentation, terms, and conditions.
  • Oversee reporting requirements for all financing arrangements.
  • Coordinate annual compilations and tax returns for all related entities with external accountants.
  • Review and challenge property tax assessments; prepare and present appeals when necessary.
  • Oversee investment activities, including management of non–real estate investments.
  • Manage banking relationships in partnership with the Controller.
  • Supervise all reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Monitor long‑term economic trends and assess potential impacts on company growth and market position.
  • Oversee financial reporting related to various lease structures (e.g., modified gross, triple net).
  • Propose and implement cost‑efficiency practices, ensuring expenses are minimized, and recoverable costs are maximized.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development through conferences, seminars, and industry learning.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • A master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 8–10 years of financial management experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and accounting/database systems.
  • Ability to work effectively within a family‑business environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
Working Conditions
  • Position is based on-site at the company’s corporate offices.
  • Occasional local travel required, with limited out‑of‑state travel as needed.
