Our client is seeking a Catastrophe Risk Modeler in Duluth, GA / Hybrid

Role Description

We are hiring a Catastrophe Risk Modeler to join its Research, Science & Engineering team. This role focuses on natural catastrophe model research, development, and validation, with a strong preference for expertise in Flood (Hydrology) or Earthquake (Seismology) perils.
The position plays a key role in supporting enterprise risk management, capital modeling, climate risk research, and long term catastrophe strategy across companies worldwide.
Natural Catastrophe Center of Excellence
• Act as a subject matter expert within the Natural Catastrophe Center of Excellence
• Proactively share modeling expertise, research findings, and analytics across global entities
• Support training, collaboration, market insights, data requests, and ad hoc analytics
Catastrophe Model Research & Development
• Perform research and development for internal catastrophe models
• Support catastrophe driven solutions for Holdings and Group companies
• Contribute to long term modeling innovation and strategy
Model Validation & Benchmarking
• Develop benchmarks to assess catastrophe model performance
• Validate hazard, vulnerability, and loss components of internal and vendor models
• Conduct loss validation to support model credibility and ongoing improvement
Enterprise Risk & Capital Modeling Support
• Partner closely with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) teams
• Help define and review capital modeling assumptions and custom risk views
• Estimate PMLs for under modeled regions and perils
• Support enterprise exposure management, live event response, and post event loss analysis
• Contribute to climate change research and physical risk impact assessments
• Have worked in:
• Vendor catastrophe modeling firms
• Insurance or reinsurance broker research and analytics groups
• Carrier or reinsurer model development teams

Skills & Requirements

We are seeking experienced catastrophe modeling professionals who:
• Have 5–10+ years of industry experience in catastrophe model research or development
• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s or Ph.D. strongly preferred)
• Progressive professional experience in catastrophe modeling (Flood, Earthquake, or related perils)
• Strong technical skills, including:
• Python or similar programming languages
• GIS
• SQL
• Advanced Excel
• AI / Machine Learning exposure preferred
• Solid understanding of the P&C (re)insurance industry, particularly how catastrophe models support:
• Risk management
• Capital modeling
• Underwriting decision making
• Bring deep expertise in Flood or Earthquake modeling
• Communication & Collaboration
• Ability to produce accurate, polished analytical outputs including reports, exhibits, and presentations
• Excellent communicator able to:
• Translate complex technical results for non technical stakeholders
• Collaborate effectively across global, cross functional teams
Strongly aligned backgrounds include:
• Hydrology / Flood science
• Seismology / Earthquake science
• Related catastrophe hazard modeling disciplines
