Assistant Project Manager - DOT

We are currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager with experience working on Heavy Highway projects to join our team. As a well-established and well-respected leader in the Florida construction industry that specializes in Heavy Highway projects, they are recognized for their commitment to quality and a legacy of successful projects. Responsibilities:
Field Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily construction activities, ensuring all work complies with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations, including the review and completion of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Daily Reports.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify that construction activities align with cost codes, ensuring quality control and adherence to the budget.
  • Calculate material quantities by taking measurements and assessing the percentage of completed or installed work.
  • Help process and verify daily labor timesheets.
  • Manage field communications with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with the project schedule and delivery of necessary resources.
  • Work with field surveyors to verify alignments, elevations, and grading, ensuring accuracy before construction activities begin.
  • Participate in weekly toolbox talks, monthly supervisor meetings, and ad-hoc safety inspections and trainings.
Office Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing detailed project schedules using tools like Primavera P6, identifying critical paths and major project milestones.
  • Assist the Project Manager with monthly pay applications by performing material quantity takeoffs using drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Support project correspondence, including maintaining and assisting the Project Manager with RFIs, NOIs, Submittals, and Transmittals.
  • Support project change management, including maintaining and assisting the Project Manager with PCOs, PCCOs and SCOs.
  • Support project documentation, including environmental permits, SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) reports, and as-built documentation to government agencies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, specifically highway, road, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong experience in material takeoffs, quantity tracking, and project cost control.
  • Experience working on government contracts with knowledge of regulatory compliance, environmental permitting, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and heavy equipment used in highway and infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate across field teams, office staff, and external agencies.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs-100lbs.
  • Strong work ethic.
