Safety Manager - Substations

The Safety Manager is responsible for compliance, assurance, and support from a safety, health, and environmental standpoint for a Heavy-Civil General Contractor. This position reports to the Safety Director. The expected work schedule is Monday through Friday with availability on weekends when needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conducts field assessments and audits to ensure compliance with our Corporate EH&S Program Manual, applicable local/state/federal regulations, and project/client-specific requirements. Works with the project team to resolve any hazards identified.
  • Generates reports to document findings from audits and follows up to ensure corrective action is taken in a timely manner to mitigate any hazards identified.
  • Participates in actual or potential Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) and other incident investigations as deemed appropriate by corporate safety.
  • Reviews Root Cause Analysis and Incident Reports to offer input on causation, recommendations for improvement, and programmatic changes.
  • Reviews, schedules, and coordinates Industrial Hygiene sampling and results as required.
  • Assists in client pre-qualifications, to include Avetta, ISNet, etc. Participates in pre-bid and pre-construction meetings.
  • Provides assistance and is a resource with the development of corporate EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and manages corporate safety accounts; safetyreports.com, MSDS online, etc.
  • Identifies areas of improvement within the EH&S Program Manual and provides suggestions for continued improvement.
  • Provides project safety coverage, when needed, to assist in filling any gaps in coverage.
  • Provides EH&S training and orientations infrequently.
  • Other duties as assigned by PIH Corporate Safety & Risk.
Education and Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in safety-related field
  • 5 years of safety experience in the construction industry and
  • ASP or GSP certification and
  • CHST certification
OR

If No Degree
  • 10 years of safety experience in the construction industry and
  • OSHA 500
  • CHST certification

Requirements
  • Minimum of four years of construction safety experience.
  • EM385-1
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and safe work practices as it relates to heavy civil and power delivery construction activities.
  • Ability for extensive travel. Will be home for the majority of the weekends.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with all levels within the organization.
Compensation
  • Salary will be based on a combination of previous related experience, education, and credentials.
