Traffic jobs – serving the road user

Appreciating the needs of the road user and keeping the public informed are pivotal parts of all traffic engineering jobs. Innovation and sustainable design will make roads smarter, safer and more affordable.

You could be undertaking traffic and transportation designs to a high standard of quality or developing innovative solutions to traffic and transportation problems. Advising clients and architects of their statutory duties and compliance with national and local authority requirements is important.

Project management experience

Educational requirements are a degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation. The ability to design traffic and transportation projects is a highly relevant skill. Senior traffic engineers will either be Chartered or Incorporated engineers and members of the relevant professional institutions (ICE, IStructE and IHT).

Experience of managing your own projects from feasibility through to implementation and an understanding of relevant legislation is desirable. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also a must. Experience of SIDRA is also an advantage.
