Building Awards 2007

A record 1,850 construction industry professionals descended into the Great Hall of London’s Grosvenor House Hotel for the annual Building Awards in April. 21 awards were presented on the evening, including the Consultant/Surveyor of the Year Award which was sponsored once again by Hays Property & Surveying, the specialist recruiter in property and surveying jobs.

Rob Smith received the award on behalf of Davis Langdon. Over the past year, Davis Langdon grew its fee income by 15%, planned to turn its technical staff into sustainability experts, won a place in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For and rolled out a project delivery framework – just some of the reasons that it was favoured by the judges.

Finalists in the Consultant/Surveyor of the Year category were:

  • Bucknall Austin
  • Cyril Sweett
  • Davis Langdon
  • Faithful & Gould
  • Mace
  • Turner & Townsend

The star of the show was Sir Robert McAlpine, who collected four awards, including the Major Contractor of the Year and the Constructing Excellence award. The evening’s entertainment was provided by political impressionist Rory Bremner and illusionist Derren Brown, while a charity raffle raised over £20,000 for the Construction Youth Trust. According to Building’s editor Denise Chevin: “In a year when construction hasn’t received the best headlines, the Building Awards remind us that there is plenty to celebrate.”

Tim Cook, managing director of Hays Property & Surveying, adds: “This is always one of the most contested categories in the Building Awards and 2007 was no different. Congratulations to Davis Langdon and all the finalists – we certainly are working in an industry to be proud of.”
