The benefits of the ACT qualification

Mark Burman, UK Director at Hays Taxation explains why the ACT qualifications can increase your chances of employment and promotion within treasury; "The ACT qualifications build on the accountancy qualifications, broadening an accountant’s skills base, as well as differentiating the individual as a treasury professional. By offering a greater depth of knowledge on the financial markets, treasury, risk and corporate finance the ACT qualification has set a global benchmark for treasury education; thereby setting the standard upon which employers and clients can rely.

"As the ACT is the only UK based professional body that offers qualifications in these industry areas it represents a highly qualified and specialist community of professionals. A number of Treasury roles expect the individual to have the AMCT qualification and, at a more senior level, the higher MCT qualification is often required."

Mark Burman says it is difficult to put an pinpoint exactly how much more an ACT qualified/senior accountant will earn: "Having the qualification will certainly enhance the candidates appeal and provide them with a far wider range of career prospects; therefore there is a significant increase in their earnings potential. Without an ACT qualification, accountants will frequently be overlooked for more senior Treasury positions.

"It is highly recommended that any accountant wishing to pursue a career within Treasury embark on the ACT studies if they do not already have this qualification. The studies will broaden financial knowledge, and give exposure to areas not previously covered in the accountancy qualifications as well as dramatically increasing the scope for career progression."
