Hays Senior Finance Salary Guide findings
Hays Senior Finance has released an up to date salary guide. The guide reveals that despite the media’s current portrayal of financial uncertainty in the UK, accountants in both practice and industry are enjoying healthy salaries and good perks, and continue to be in high demand.
Basic salary figures in the guide are based on placements made by Hays Senior Finance over the past 12 months. Benefits and working practices information is gleaned from the research of over 600 accountants working in firms and industry.
Salary Guide findings
- Demand still outstrips supply and year-on-year Hays Senior Finance is seeing an 8% increase on role vacancy registrations
- Newly Qualified ACAs can now demand up to £50,000 in the City while at the other end of the spectrum may earn £23,500 in a local practice in Northern Ireland
- Those who opt for practice and work for the big 4 firms in London can earn up to £47,000. Newly qualifieds working outside of London earn considerably less than their London-based peers. Accountants working in commerce and industry in the West Midlands, Scotland and Manchester typically take home around £32,000
Research findings
- 88% of accountants questioned were either very or fairly fulfilled in their career
- Money is the biggest catalyst causing individuals to consider a new role. 61% said they would consider a new role with the temptation of a ‘golden hello’ or other joining bonus.
- 41% said a car allowance is an incentive to move
- 615 said they would not be enticed to move by generous maternity and paternity entitlements
- 72% said they rate 25 days annual leave as ‘important’ or ‘vital’
