Safety in Numbers for Site Workers
In times of economic uncertainty, freelance workers want to feel safe in the knowledge they will still be paid for the work that they do and employers want maximum productivity and minimum disruption from their workforce. A more established recruitment agency, such as Hays Construction, can offer an added element of security.
Stephen Owens, manager at Hays Construction, which has an office on St Enoch Square in Glasgow City Centre, suggests that construction workers check out the credentials of the recruitment agency before they work with them. “Just as you would if you were being employed directly, find out how well-established they are and how strong the business backing is. Are they likely to be able to find you enough work and perhaps most importantly, are they definitely going to pay you for it?” says Stephen.
Gerry Reilly, a skilled labourer who was affected by the demise of a local agency has now found work through Hays Construction. He comments: “I contacted Hays to find freelance work and was relieved that they found me a job so quickly – it is good to know that there is still work out there. I would definitely think twice about working through a smaller recruitment agency again – particularly at the moment when the risk in the construction industry is so much higher. After all, if you do a good job, you want to get paid for it.”
