CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ARE IN DEMAND IN LEEDS
Growth in the construction industry in and around Leeds is fuelling demand for workers, says local recruitment consultancy Hays Construction & Property. In order to provide a better local service and meet an increased demand for construction professionals in the West Yorkshire area, the UK’s leading specialist recruitment consultancy will be holding an open day on Wednesday 28 May at its office on South Parade in Leeds.
Projects currently underway in the area include the £50 million development on Woodhouse Lane which will provide accommodation for students at Leeds Metropolitan University, as well as the redevelopment of the Headrow shopping centre. Extensive construction work is also taking place in the heart of Leeds where Yorkshire’s first skyscraper is under construction – the Lumiere. The development comprises of a 32 storey mixed-use and 54 storey residential pair of towers plated with glass. The heightened construction work in the area means that workers across all disciplines are in demand; however, labourers, joiners and plant operatives are particularly sought after.
Pam Lindsay-Dunn, Regional Director at Hays Construction & Property, comments: ‘’The construction industry across Yorkshire is strong and there is plenty of work available. There is currently a shortage of skilled candidates, which means that workers who possess experience in construction are in high demand and can command excellent salaries and benefits. The open day will offer workers the opportunity to find out about what work is available, what rates they can expect and what local employers are looking for. Specialist consultants will be on hand to provide expert career advice, as well as invaluable CV and interview tips.’’
