National Temporary Workers Week
National Temporary Worker Week is an annual event run by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, to all UK temporary and contract workers. It aims to promote the contribution of the temporary workforce and demonstrate the broad range of professions and industries that temps work in.
There are over 1.4 million temporary workers on assignment in the UK each week*, in a variety of different roles. The flexibility and dynamism that these remarkable people bring to their work is an important reason why the British economy continues to lead in Europe.
The recruitment industry is worth £26.6 billion to the British economy and directly employs over 101.000 individuals*. Hays Marketing is proud to be one of the leaders in the temporary workers recruitment industry, matching the right assignment or contract to the right individual.
We’ve filled 72% of all interim jobs registered over the last six months. Hays Marketing temps are employed across all sectors, with majority in the Public Sector, Financial Services, FMCG and B2B organisations. From July 2007 until June 2008 we have observed an increase in average salary levels of interim vacancies registered from c28,000 – c34,000.
The key priorities for interim workers looking for new assignment are:
- Potential for skills development
- Company and team culture
- Length of the contract
- Salary level
Recent research shows that overall temporary and contract workers are more satisfied than permanent workers, and that businesses treasure these workers for the flexibility and adaptability that they provide. 40% of interims have worked on a temporary basis through a recruitment agency or employment agency for more than 12 months, 20% have done so for three years or more.**
The flexibility, choice and variety of experience that can be achieved by fulfilling temporary, contract or interim management positions mean that this is an increasingly popular career choice for many professionals.
