About Us
Westcountry Ambulance Service covers the largest geographical area of any single Ambulance Service in England, extending over fifteen thousand square kilometres. Covering Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, it provides one of the most challenging environments in which to provide an Ambulance Service.
We are justly proud that staff are pro-active in working to provide a high standard of out of hospital care and advice to our resident and visiting population.
The Trust is working hard to set the standard for others to follow. We are working particularly to develop effective partnerships with the wider health community to ensure that the patient not only receives timely care but also that such care is delivered by the most appropriate person. We are also keen to work closely with patients and their representatives as part of our involvement strategies.
The Trust provides ambulance services for two Strategic Health Authorities;
Dorset and Somerset, and the South West Peninsula. In addition the
Trust works with 15 Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) for ambulance matters
and 18 for NHS Direct.

Investors in People & Equal Opoprtunities
The Trust is working towards equal opportunities and having a workforce
which represents the diversity of the people it serves. Due to under
representation we particularly welcome job applications from people
with a disability and people from minority ethnic groups. The Trust
has policies and procedures which ensure that all applicants are
treated fairly and consistently at every stage of the recruitment
process, including considering reasonable adjustments for people
who have disabilities.
