Position:     Business Development Manager
Location:    Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire
Salary:        £22,000 basic + activity targeted bonus + commission
OTE:            £35,000 to £45,000

The Position:

The job will require a good understanding of the services and the pricing structures of the company and to be able to compare those to prospects’ existing prices with existing suppliers to be able to arrive at attractive offers for them. You will also need to keep abreast of the market in general to ensure that we remain competitive.

We are looking for a ‘clued up’ individual, a ‘bright spark’ who does not need a lot of hand-holding and who can therefore hit the ground running. They must therefore know logistics and have a previous successful track record selling storage, haulage and pallet/parcel network services.

They will need to be self-confident talking to people at all levels, from back door staff to directors of large companies.

This role will suit an up and coming and ambitious Sales Exec who is ready to progress into a more autonomous role, making their own decisions and recommendations to senior managers and not just following a pre-set procedure to win business.

Although we have a need to build our ‘bread and butter’ business (primarily Pallet-Track sales), we are also looking for someone who has the drive and ambition to target and win big contracts that will have a major effect on the overall growth of the business.

You will be responsible for:

  • Prospecting for sales leads
  • Acquiring sales leads from all sources
  • Visiting prospects & defining their requirements
  • Analysing their activity data and comparing prices schemes
  • Tailoring price schemes where appropriate
  • Presenting a service/price package to the prospect
  • Winning the business!
  • Completing the necessary procedures to bring account on board
  • Handing over management of the account to the appropriate departmental manager at the right time
  • Following up at regular intervals to ensure customer satisfaction and feeding back to the departmental managers and senior management as appropriate
  • Upselling to existing customers
  • Assisting the Credit Controller with the collection of debtors where possible
  • To develop and improve your own skills in relation to the job
  • Suggesting and implementing sales, marketing & PR strategies

About the Person:

The successful candidate will have to meet the following criteria:
  • Self-starter
  • Self-motivated
  • Assertive but diplomatic
  • Must work well to deadlines, on their own and with others
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task different duties
  • Good computer skills are essential, especially, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Must have proven sales experience in logistics

The Benefits:

Salary:           £22,000 basic + activity targeted bonus + commission

OTE:               £35,000 to £45,000

Holiday:         20 Days + bank holidays

Reports to:    Operations Manager, Commercial Director and working closely with the Managing Director
