Our client, BARB (Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board) provides audience measurement for television broadcasters and the advertising industry in the UK. BARB’s members are the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, BSkyB and the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.
Over the next 7 years TNS will provide BARB with viewing estimates from panels of television owning households representing the viewing behaviour of over 24+ million households within the UK. In each panel home, electronic ‘people meters’ are attached to watch TV in the home. Each meter automatically identifies and collects information about the programme and the channel that the panel member is viewing. This information is collected via modem each night and is used to derive the ratings data for the BARB subscribers. Ratings data is available the next day.
