At Stockley Academy we believe passionately that learning and achievement transforms lives. Our vision is described in the statement Our Power to Learn and our core value is to provide inspirational learning for all. We also want students to develop respect for each other and for learning and to develop partnerships with families, the community and other networks.
We
intend to create a learning environment that is dynamic and exciting. We want
our passion and enthusiasm to be infectious, so that our students recognise
that at Stockley Academy there is no limit to what they can achieve.
We aim to inspire young people to be adaptable, tolerant and prepared to work hard. We want them to take their place in the community and the wider world, proud of their achievements and with the necessary skills, confidence and self-reliance.
Our impressive range of facilities includes: classrooms designed to take advantage of the latest techniques and teaching aids; a suite of science laboratories and a science garden; advanced design and technology workshops with industry standard equipment; food technology rooms; an art and design suite with graphics design technology; a multimedia language centre; a video editing suite; large drama studio; excellent music suite with advanced electronic music and recording studio and individual practice rooms; as well as a restaurant.
A large, attractive social space is placed at the heart of the Academy where
students and others can meet friends, relax and socialise. There will be a
shop selling stationery and a vending area for drinks and sandwiches. The
main hall has theatre seating where lectures, performances and shows can take
place.
The Academy’s Library and Learning Resources Centre is at the heard of learning and provides open access for learning, study and independent learning. Students are encouraged to develop research skills using the extensive multimedia learning resources for all areas of the curriculum and a rich, varied fiction stock encourages reading for pleasure.
Outside, the Academy has been landscaped and planted with trees and shrubs, while external courtyards, including an amphitheatre and a pond, provide outdoor classrooms and ample scope to ecological studies and projects.
A Sixth Form Centre, with common room, learning resources and exclusive ICT areas, allows our older students to both study and socialise.
Success for all
All
members of staff share the vision for the Academy and work with dedication
and commitment to motivate and inspire students to achieve the highest possible
results.
The Academy has a strong academic base to equip students with a sense of self-belief and faith in the power of learning.
High expectations, supported by excellent resources, leading edge technology in our new building and expert teaching from well-qualified specialist staff, ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
Education is a lifelong process and we are committed to giving students experiences that develop the independence and flexibility necessary for their future. We will encourage and equip our students to think about what they are going to do next and make informed decisions at every stage of their development.
We have established a structure, which is both caring and firm. Anything that gets in the way of learning, including poor behaviour and poor attendance, will not be accepted. Achievement and positive attitudes are rewarded and we strive to establish a harmonious, hard working ethos in which our students can develop, learn and achieve.
Stockley Academy is a new, independent, 11-19 school, receiving its funding
directly from the Department for Education and
Skills. It is a superb example of a successful working partnership between
the education and private sector. Our principle sponsor Barry Townsley, a
successful stockbroker and banker. We are well supported by Brunel University,
BAA, Cisco Networking Systems, Hasbro, Jarvis, Autodesk Corporation and Allied
Irish Bank. These partnerships with businesses and industry ensure that Stockley
Academy achieves outstanding success and that maximum opportunities are available
to students and the wider community.
The Academy Day
Students arrive at 8.30am and classes will normally finish around 3pm. Students can take advantage of breakfast and study facilities before school and stay after school to take part in clubs, sports, performance and other extra curricular activities.
Curriculum
Stockley Academy aims to maximise student performance in all its forms and the curriculum plays a fundamental part in this. It is at the cutting edge of educational development and designed to support the highest levels of achievement.
We offer a broad and balanced education for students between 11 and 19, with a specialism in Science and Technology. There is an emphasis on vocational courses both at the KS4 and the post 16 phases to complement the more academic GCSE, AS and A2 examinations.
The Academy aims to be at the forefront of curriculum development and design, using leading edge technology, to ensure that our students achieve at the highest possible levels.
Enrichment
We
aim to provide a variety of enrichment opportunities to achieve – intellectually,
personally, socially and creatively.
Life at Stockley does not begin and end in the classroom. All students are encouraged to develop their talents and skills by participating in the enormous range of activities which take place at lunchtimes and after school.
Field trips, visits to museums, art galleries, exhibitions and theatres, together with trips abroad, complement study courses and students can take part in the successful Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Rewarding achievement
Students receive awards, prizes and positive comments from staff in recognition of contributions to Academy life, behaviour and achievement, with celebration assemblies being held regularly.
