Welcome from the Head
Welcome to our recruitment website.
St Marie’s mission statement asserts that “We will provide the means to enable individuals to grow to be the best people they can” and this applies equally to pupils and staff. We aim to develop our children’s confidence and respect for themselves and other people. We teach them to aim high, to work well and to be proud of what they achieve. We are a forward thinking school that encourages innovation and creativity and we are keen to support the professional development of our staff. We welcome applications from energetic and aspirational teachers that can contribute to our successful team.
Mr Michael Floyd - Headteacher
About Us
St Marie’s voluntary aided Catholic Junior school is located in Rugby, Warwickshire and caters for around 200 pupils. The school has a good balance of experienced and younger staff and an excellent reputation locally. “Standards in speaking, listening, reading, mathematics and science are above average and the pupils achieve well”(Ofsted). A significant number of students are offered scholarships to Princethorpe and Rugby School each year.
Teaching is good with particularly effective teaching of music, dance, drama and the creative / expressive arts. In 2004 and 2007, the Arts Council awarded the school Arts Mark Gold status. The school’s performing arts club, SCAMPS, is listed by Education Extra as one of the top 300 extra-curricular clubs in the country and they have received a certificate of distinction for the production of original, high quality performances.
The school is part of the Children’s University and pupils have benefited from taking part in a number of modules run by the University of Warwick including drama, art and lifesaving. A broad range of residential and one day educational trips enrich the curriculum and have included visits to museums, a Roman Fort and the RSC in Stratford upon Avon. The school also has partnerships with Warwickshire County Cricket Club and the football development service. Sport is another strength of the school and pupils engage in a broad range of traditional and newer sports including tag rugby and Gaelic football. There is a high standard of PE and sport, which has been recognised by the award of Activemark in each recent year.
The creative arts permeate the curriculum at St Marie’s and Drama plays a key role within literacy. The school is well resourced for both pupils and staff with good library facilities and ICT provision. ICT underpins the curriculum and each classroom is equipped with a number of networked computers providing Broadband internet access. As part of the Warwickshire ‘We-Learn’ initiative several classrooms have been fitted with data projectors, sound systems and tablet pc’s to enhance teaching and learning.
Ofsted observed that "the relationships between pupils and adult members of the school community are of an unusually high standard." Staff are well supported by governors, the leadership team and a range of effective non-teaching staff including administrators, teaching assistants and specialist SEN support. A comprehensive program of INSET training is available for all staff and a number of staff have already successfully undertaken the NPQH. Professional development is actively encouraged at St Marie’s and we are keen to take on board new ideas from forward thinking teaching colleagues.
As a Catholic school, St Marie’s uses the curriculum strategy “Learning & Growing as the People of God” which is underpinned by a strong commitment and witness, and a close relationship with the Parish. RE is presented across the curriculum in addition to being delivered as a subject in its own right. All staff are required to show respect for the Christian ethos of the school although it is not a requirement for mainscale teaching staff to be active in the Catholic faith.
