Projects > Roads Projects > M1 Widening The Highways Agency announced the award of a £429m major Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract for improvements to the M1 junctions 10 - 13 and the A5 - M1 Link (Dunstable Bypass). Scott Wilson was awarded the consultancy work, in conjunction with the contractors JV of Costain and Mowlem for this largest ECI contract to date.

The construction work is due to start on the M1 section mid 2008 and to be open to traffic mid 2011. The project will be run from co-located offices, which is part of Scott Wilson’s office in Royal Court in Chesterfield. Along with Scott Wilson, Costain and Mowlem the Employer’s Agent and Highways Agency staff will make up a fully integrated team. Work on the A5 - M1 Link scheme will be delivered from Scott Wilson’s Birmingham office.
The M1 part of the scheme, which will be worth £381m, will see the widening of £25Km of the motorway from D3M to D4M and will include improvements to junctions 11,12 and 13. The £48m A5 - M1 link involves improvements to 4.5km with a new M1 junction 11A and is a rural Greenfield site.
