The South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust came into being on 1st July 2006 following a merger of the four ambulance trusts covering the counties of Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The two main functions of the Trust are the provision of an Accident and Emergency service to respond to 999 calls and a Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service. SCAS is embarking on a programme of change in the way pre-hospital care is delivered, working to treat more patients in their homes in order to better meet their needs and prevent unnecessary trips to hospital. New response time standards will ensure that the response to patients will be faster than ever. To achieve this change, SCAS will be recruiting and training more paramedics and emergency care assistants and engaging with other healthcare partners such as GPs, district nurses, social and community services. With plans to gain Foundation Trust status in the next few years, it is an exciting time to work for the Trust as it moves through a period of significant change and progression.
