South Coast Audit (SCA) is an NHS hosted ‘not-for-profit’ internal audit and counter-fraud consortium that has a strong reputation for delivering quality and cost-effective services.
We are a shared service that has been in operation for over 25 years. We attribute our longevity and success to maintaining a firm commitment to working as an “internal” provider that benefits from the economies of scale and scope of a true shared service. Our motivation is not profit, but in delivering what we are tasked to deliver. This we can only do in conjunction with management and the board, by working together and building up relationships of trust from proven delivery.
We are at the forefront of developments in the role of Internal Audit, both within the NHS and beyond. For example, our Acting Managing Director is leading the project to develop new NHS Internal Audit Standards.
SCA is also one of the leading providers of Local Counter Fraud Services. We feel that this service is indicative of our whole approach, namely an excellent reputation for the provision of local counter-fraud services, from one of the largest dedicated teams of counter-fraud specialists in the NHS, which is currently being assessed for accreditation by the national Counter Fraud and Security Management Service.
SCA provides services to over 40 organisations, primarily but not solely in the healthcare sector. As well as NHS Trusts, PCTs and Health Authorities, we provide services to a number of high profile national organisations including the Healthcare Commission. Our budgeted income for the 2008/09 financial year is just under £4.6 million.
We have main offices in Battle (Head Office), Folkestone, Maidstone, Pembury, Beckenham, Merstham (near Redhill), Eastbourne, Brighton, Eastleigh, Salisbury and Bath, as well as a number of satellite offices at client sites.
SCA has an establishment of 101 staff, with a broad range of skills and competencies. We are committed to the development of our staff and their career progression. This is demonstrated by our ongoing Investor in People accreditation since 1998, Gold employer accreditation by ACCA and our support of the National Financial Management Training Scheme, providing trainees with the opportunity of a secondment in Internal Audit (and our staff seconded back into the NHS). Professionally qualified, (CCAB and Institute of Internal Auditors) staff, with extensive experience and technical ability, work in all our teams.
We are driven by quality, evidenced through our retention of ISO 9001:2000 accreditation since 1994, as well as a silver recognition award under the EFQM Excellence Model in 2002, and a 97.5% satisfaction rating from our clients.
