Gemma Baston – Portfolio Manager, North Commercial
I joined the group in 2005 as an Assistant Relationship Manager, previously having worked as a Management Accountant. With the help of my line manager and the managers I assisted I worked hard to develop myself into an integral part of the team and a recognised assistant within the business as a whole.
The hard work and dedication resulted in being nominated and subsequently attending the Outstanding Achievers Awards in 2007 which were held over 4 days in Boston, USA.
In April 2007 I was successful in my application for promotion to Portfolio Manager. Soon after promotion I was asked if I would like to complete a secondment onto a group project which I accepted and did for 7 months until the project came to an end in October 2007. The project allowed me to work closely with other departments within the business and gain knowledge and understanding of how the different departments fit together and help to make RBSIF a successful business.
In January 2008 I am looking forward to starting a new and exciting challenge as a Trainee Business Development Manager. Had it not been for the exposure I have received throughout my time with RBSIF I do not think I would have had the relevant knowledge to progress to this role.
I have learnt that hard work and dedication pay off within the business and that there are not only opportunities within RBSIF but also within the RBS group as a whole. RBSIF are keen to develop and promote people from within and you will only get out of it what you put in!
