About the School

Image - Peers SchoolPeers School is an 11 – 18 Comprehensive school with 860 pupils situated close to the heart of Oxford. The school provides Education at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 to the communities of Blackbird Leys, Rosehill and Littlemore. Through strong ties with local businesses and organisations including Oxford United Football Club we are developing a reputation as an asset to this part of Oxford.

An important facet of staff that work successfully at Peers is their determination to create opportunities in education for young people, to raise their aspirations and to produce high expectations of what our school can provide.

Our school vision is to establish a centre of innovation, excellence and high value added. The journey is challenging, yet stimulating for anybody looking to enhance his or her professional career. New opportunities are being created, most recently with several of our staff visiting schools in Texas to see how a transforming Behaviour Management system could be adopted.

The leadership team consists of 6, The Head Teacher, Communications Manager, 2 x Deputy Heads and 2 x Assistant Heads. A team of middle leaders are responsible with the classroom teachers for enthusing passion in their subject specialism.

A strong team of learning mentors, pastoral support workers and classroom learning support assistants supports the classroom teacher. Inclusion and Additional Needs are strongly catered for both in our systems and our staffing as approximately 40% of our students are on one of the stages of the SEN register.

Teamwork is a key feature at Peers. New staff are made to feel particularly welcomed, supported and valued. Peer observation is a regular feature, both within and across faculties. Staff share their day-to-day joys and frustrations of teaching and help each other find new ways of enjoying success in the classroom.

We understand and take pride in meeting our professional responsibilities to both new and existing staff. Peers School is a place where you can further your career development and rise to the challenges of an urban school.

Newly qualified teachers are mentored on a weekly basis and meet regularly with a senior member of staff to discuss education practice and skills development.

Training is provided at whole school, departmental and individual teacher level. Emphasis is placed on professional development as a classroom practitioner and looking at the latest developments to shape the craft of teaching.
