Welcome to Medway Community College

I am pleased to be able to introduce you to Medway Community College at this exciting but challenging time in the school's history. We are a school with the potential to continue the improvements of the past few years. With the new curriculum there will be even more opportunities for us to develop not only the academic achievement of each student, but also to enhance their enjoyment, excitement and interest in the whole school experience.

Children need to learn.  Our focus at Medway Community College is to make sure they have every opportunity to do well and achieve their full potential.  At Medway Community College, Learning and Teaching are at the heart of everything we do.  The school provides an exciting and motivating learning environment, within a consistent, supportive and caring structure, where young people are able to enjoy learning.

We firmly believe that the school needs to serve the community and for each child that comes to Medway Community College our first and main responsibility is to meet that child’s needs. We are committed to involving all students, parents, carers, staff and Governors in providing a broad and balanced education.

We listen to our students. Many contribute to various aspects of school life through the Student Council and, in their final year, as Prefects. Many students represent the school through sporting events, academic challenges and charitable initiatives. There are many varied activities to try in addition to the curriculum, which is broad and inclusive. The students at the school are encouraged to discuss, to speak up when they see something they feel is wrong and to support each other. We believe that the young adults who leave this school should be well-prepared for their future role in society.

As the school enters this challenging period we seek to build capacity to provide the springboard to continued and accelerated improvement.

An Ofsted inspection in December 2007 recognised the challenges that remain ahead for us and placed the school in Special Measures to enable us to draw on additional support. We are working closely with advisers from Medway Council and look forward to Ofsted recognising our progress. Our top priority is to improve achievement and raise standards.

We recognise the concerns of the inspectors and approach special measures with a positive attitude and are working hard to improve standards as quickly as possible. Ofsted agreed there are already green shoots of progress and there will be many more in the coming months. Our curriculum was recognised as a good base for us to build on.

So,

Are you looking for an unique, challenging and exciting opportunity? Can you support the school in raising standards of teaching and learning in our drive to be removed from Special Measures as soon as possible?

We have posts available that offer a genuine opportunity to make a significant contribution to the life chances of the young people the school serves.

You will have the ability, ambition and determination to secure positive outcomes for our young people and for the school.

We are looking to add to our complement of enthusiastic staff by recruiting colleagues who can focus on the positives and support the culture of change towards continual school improvement. More than anything else, we are always on the lookout for tenacious, professionals who are intent on making a substantial contribution. Despite the challenges, the mood of the staff and students remains positive.  As Headteacher I also continue to be encouraged enormously by the support I have had from governors, staff and the community. I am confident that you can anticipate the same in your role.

Please feel free to contact the school so that we can provide you with any additional information you may require. You would be assured of a warm welcome should you wish to visit the school.
