Welcome to Manor Park Community School and Specialist Arts College

Head Teacher

I would like to welcome all prospective candidates who we hope will be encouraged to apply to join the staff of Manor Park Community School and Specialist Arts College.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the Headteacher of the school and am very pleased by the tremendous progress we have made this year.

Manor Park Community School and Specialist Arts College has a positive, caring ethos and strong shared values. It is a vibrant, inclusive school where every student’s achievement is valued. We have high expectations of our students and recognise and value the tremendous hard work the vast majority of our students put in to their studies. We set challenging academic targets which clearly indicate the progress we expect students to make, and also set personal targets to guide students’ wider social development. Students are well supported by their tutors and subject teachers.

From September 2007, the school’s new ‘official’ title became ‘Manor Park Community School and Specialist Arts College’. Each part of the title is important; we are a school that is a part of the community, and we want to continue to play a real role in the life of the area by educating our students well, by offering services and facilities that are used by different groups and clubs and by creating a sense of ambition and celebration.

Manor Park's results rose rapidly in 2008 (following a dip in 2007 in a period of great turbulence in terms of leadership and staffing). I have been in post since September 2007 and a very strong leadership team is now moving the school forward. We have made excellent appointments and all these factors led to an 11% rise in our 5 A*-C grades this year. Further improvements over the next two years should help us to reach our target of 48% A*-C in 2010. I think we can do even better than this and would welcome candidates who share these high aspirations for our students.

We have used the additional Specialist College funds to improve resources and equipment and to build on the opportunities in the arts already in place, but we have also been working hard to raise standards and opportunities in other areas, particularly through focusing on literacy and on offering a range of different courses and qualifications for our students.

We are developing our curriculum to include a number of different opportunities for students and the local community. Our links with North Warwickshire and Hinckley College are very strong and we are looking at ways that we can develop these links to include community provision on the school site for adults, as well as offering students courses at the college as part of their school timetable.

We are a friendly, supportive staff with effective CPD and support procedures. We invest in our staff in order that they are best able to invest in our students, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We are extremely proud of our school and our young people and would invite any prospective candidate to look round the school before applying for a post or attending for interview.

Yours sincerely,

Patsy Weighill
