Thank you for your interest in Lyng Hall, a Trust School and Specialist Sports College. We are a relatively small school, which makes it possible for all staff to know the pupils. This is important in enabling us to create a caring and supportive environment for our pupils.
Everyone is committed to ensuring that the pupils achieve the highest possible standards. We adapt and personalise the delivery of the curriculum and staff are actively encouraged to develop creative and motivational techniques for teaching the pupils. Our recent examination success is clear evidence that this long term strategy is having a profoundly positive impact on the pupils.
Lyng Hall is an exciting school that is flourishing. Our designation as a specialist Sports College signalled the start of a period of rapid growth and exciting developments, including a £2.5 million school and community sports facility.
The school has many strengths and an Ofsted inspection in February 2006 endorsed the strategies that have been put in place. I was particularly pleased that the inspection team identified that:
Year on year, results are getting better and better and pupils are given a wider range of opportunities and experiences to enrich the quality of their lives, help them to achieve their potential and develop within them, attitudes necessary to become a compassionate and successful member of the adult world.
This year we achieved 62% 5A*-C against an FFT expectation of 40%. In this respect we are the highest achieving school in the city. Over 93% of the pupils achieved 5A*-G and for the third year running 100% achieved at least 1A*-G.
Staff turnover is very low. Characteristically, staff are involved in a range of exciting national and local initiatives as participants and contributors. We are always keen to appoint teachers who want to explore and develop strategies that improve the work we do and test the boundaries of our thinking about the best ways to help children learn.
I hope this website gives you a flavour of what we do at Lyng Hall and the things we care about.
Should you require further information or would like to arrange a tour of the school, please contact Oliver Wood at Hays on 024 7622 2322.
I look forward to meeting you.
