About LSE

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is a world class centre for teaching and research across the full range of the social, political and economic sciences. Staff and students not only come from the UK and European Union, but also countries from every continent. The LSE is an unusual university; founded in 1895 it has an outstanding reputation for academic excellence and few universities in the world are as international. From its inception, the LSE has aimed to be a laboratory of the social sciences and a place where ideas are developed, analysed, evaluated and disseminated around the globe.

The School manages a large estate, accommodating 9,400 students and 3,259 staff on its main campus alone, comprising 113,000 sq m Gross Floor Area in the Aldwych/Lincoln’s Inn Fields area of central London. The LSE also operates some 2,700 student bedrooms in Halls of Residence within easy travelling distance. The majority of these properties are freehold with some leased premises. In addition to this, the School owns and operates a Sports Ground in South London. The value of the entire LSE estate is approx. £500 million.
