Relationship Director (RM4)
Working life for me started with a spell playing professional Rugby League for Leigh, though it soon became apparent that I would have to get a ‘proper job’ after a serious injury .
In 1994 I joined one of Lombard’s competitors working as an office based Relationship Manager, dealing predominantly with the Commercial vehicle market. It soon became clear that this was to be my chosen long term career path, I enjoyed the cut and thrust of dealing with customers and dealers alike.
I joined Lombard in 2000 to take on a field based role as Relationship Manager (RM1 ). I was responsible for looking after a portfolio of existing customers ,and a territory around Preston from which to develop new connections. This period of my career represented a steep learning curve, but I was given comprehensive training by Lombard to help me along the way.
As my experience developed I showed a real interest in the Introducer market which resulted in me being asked to form a separate unit in the Haydock Business Centre to attack that market. Success in this role saw me moving through the ranks to RM2 within a year.
Following a year away from Lombard I realised that the old adage of ‘The Grass is Always Greener – But !!’ applied to me and I returned to Lombard as an RM3 to continue to develop the market I had started there.
In 2007 Lombard created a new Business that focussed on the Broker and Introducer market and I was successful in being promoted to my first managerial level, as Relationship Director.
I now enjoy working in a business that is very dynamic and that can react quickly to opportunities in the market. But just as important to me, I feel the business listens to and values what I have to say.
