Salford

The city of Salford is famous for many things. Its colourful history can be dated back to 1230AD.

Originally, a village on the banks of the Irwell, Salford grew through industrialisation. Cloth and silk were made here, as well as the processes of dyeing, fulling and bleaching. It eventually grew to be one of the greatest cotton towns, although the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894 and the construction of Salford Docks also brought employment for almost a century.

Now, not as famous for Industry and perhaps more for culture, shopping, food, nights out, celebrity and sport: it’s fair to say that Salford has changed!

What has been added is an award-winning cultural and architectural tribute to Salford’s most famous painter, designer shopping, the north west's only 5-star hotel, the odd famous chef's restaurant and a wildlife reserve or two.

There are many benefits for living in a city such as Salford. The high quality life offers a wide choice of places to live at reasonable cost. There is a wide selection of housing in the area ranging from tiny cottages and terraces to houses verging on being stately!

House prices in the area may surprise those of you who are used to living in the high cost parts of the country!

Lancashire - The Ribble ValleyLancashire

In contrast to the bright lights of Manchester, Lancashire offers a more relaxed atmosphere where walkers will love the peace of the Lancashire Dales, the Forest of Bowland's silent hills and the deserted lanes which lead to eerie Pendle Hill, surrounded by stories and legends of the infamous Pendle witches.

If this appeals to you why not visit the Ribble Valley which lies in the north east of Lancashire, the majority of which forms part of the Forest of Bowland AONB, the first protected area in England to be awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas.

So, if you're a nature lover, Ribble Valley will inspire you. Whether walking, cycling, on horseback or touring by car you will stumble across the many ever-changing habitats for Britain's rare species of birds, wildlife, flora and fauna. Gentle lowland, criss-crossed with dry stonewalls dotted with picturesque farms, villages, and ancient churches offer endless opportunities for the artist or photographer in you.
