Stonehenge, Wiltshire
Stonehenge is the nation's most famous archaeological monument and one
of the best known in the world. In recognition of its international cultural
importance it was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1986.
The Stonehenge Masterplan proposed to return the monument to an open plan
landscape setting and the creation of a new world class gateway for visitors
with full interpretation facilities outside the World Heritage Site at
Countess East. This project implements the objective.
