Welcome

Welcome

Filsham Valley School is an 11 to 18, fully inclusive school and promotes the pursuit of excellence for all its pupils within a caring and supportive environment.

At the heart of the school is its inclusiveness, where our commitment to succeeding together and releasing entrepreneurial potential is shown through every aspect of its life, particularly in the quality of the relationships we engender and promote. These relationships not only look inwards but also reflect out to the wider community. The school values diversity and is sensitive to the range of traditions and cultures represented in the locality. A team of OfSTED inspectors visited Filsham Valley School in March 2005. The team of staff here work extremely hard and we are very proud of the school and the improvements that we are making. The team reported that:

“This is an improving school. Most pupils achieve well, because the good teaching helps them to learn and to grow in self-confidence in this very inclusive school. The headteacher gives very good leadership, is supported well by her senior team, and this is bringing about improvements and raising standards.

The school's main strengths are:

  • Pupils achieve well in almost all subjects and attain results above the national average in some, such as art and design and media studies (where provision is excellent), and design and technology.
  • Good teaching means that pupils make good progress overall.
  • There are very good opportunities for pupils to attend clubs and go on trips.
  • The school is very good at seeking the views of parents and pupils and acting upon them.
  • The provision for pupils' care, welfare, health and safety is very good.
  • The provision for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) is good.
  • Very good links with the local schools and community enhance pupils' learning opportunities.
  • The school took the [last] inspection findings very seriously and has worked hard to improve provision. There has been significant improvement in leadership and management, strategic planning, teaching, numeracy and spiritual development.

My staff and I want the very best for pupils who attend the school. We have very clear plans for even more improvements and are not complacent. Our bid for Business and Enterprise Specialist School Status and the work that we will be doing as a Creative - Partnerships and Full Service school will help make us even better. This is a very exciting time for us.

The school is a well-ordered community, providing a secure, structured environment for learning. It has modern facilities and offers a wide range of curriculum enrichment activities as well as the highest standards of teaching and learning. In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the National Curriculum through its teaching programme, Filsham Valley School is developing an innovative curriculum enabling pupils and students to access curriculum pathways suited to individual needs.

I hope that what you see and read in this website will both inspire and inform you.

Filsham Valley School is a school of which parents, staff, pupils and the local community can all be immensely proud.

Filsham is flying!
