About Me

I like to travel and study languages and the idea of working for a company operating in 44 countries worldwide appealed to me very much – even though I’d never heard of CHEP before.  I am now in my second year on the Programme and am really enjoying working for the company.

I grew up in North East England and graduated from the University of Liverpool, earning a combined honours degree in International Business Studies & German Language. I also speak French, some Dutch & Italian.  My position is currently field based.

Working Life

My first rotation with CHEP was on an Asset Recovery project designed to reduce paperwork for CHEP customers and improve customer satisfaction.  I was out there in the field, hands on. The responsibility given to me in a short space of time has been one of the most enjoyable and challenging aspects of the role.

This role also involved working with the Control Team, training customers to use CHEP’s unique online pallet control system, Portfolio, thereby enabling customers to transfer pallets to locations all over the world at the touch of a button. I helped support the Portfolio team as part of a secondment from my first role within CHEP. There was a significant amount of operational analysis and problem resolution at major retailers to provide a more bespoke service to customers as well as increasing asset recovery rates.

I particularly enjoyed liaising with customers, developing one-on-one relationships with them, whilst also making sure our objectives for the project were being met. The potential to move up the ladder is enormous within CHEP. I would encourage anyone looking for a graduate position to take a look at the company. You feel that you’re wanted here because they’ve invested so much time and money in you. For that reason, I try my hardest to do well in order to give them something back.

After 12 Months with CHEP I successfully moved on to a second rotation within the Sales & Customer Service function of the business, to the Movement Verification Programme team. It was always going to be a challenge moving to a more commercial position in CHEP but this was something that I was willing to undertake in order to gain a better understanding of the business in the long term and to gain some vital commercial exposure. The role covers most of the South East of England working with customers in an attempt to secure more revenue for the business whilst ensuring that customers are being invoiced correctly, recognising new business opportunities and solving any problems or concerns the customer has.  This role really allows me to make a difference within the company, the results of what I do are easily quantifiable and I can see what kind of contribution I am actively making to the business.
