Laurence Kerans,
Movement Verification Programme Executive
I joined CHEP in July 2008 after graduating from the University of Huddersfield with a BSc Hons degree in European Logistics Management. I first heard about CHEP during a presentation given by one of the European Project Managers on problems within the supply chain which led me to research the company further. At a careers fair during my final year at University I managed to discuss the role at great length which led me to apply.
The application process differed greatly from other companies, providing more human interaction and less form completion. The initial application was followed by a telephone interview. A short period after that I was invited to attend an assessment centre, which was the first point of contact with the CHEP organisation. I also completed a series of online tests, consisting of both verbal and non verbal reasoning, along with a psychometric questionnaire. The assessment centre impressed me greatly; especially the calming influence of the management, ensuring you remained composed and able to perform at your best. The day was very challenging but also well structured, consisting of several exercises, group work, as well as individual interviews. The main aim of the assessment centre was not only for CHEP to get to know you, but also for you to gain an insight into whether you think you would be suited to a role within the organisation.
My first placement was working on the Movement Verification Program. The role is field based, dealing with customers in and around London. The fundamental aims of the role are to identify and recover any lost revenue as well as accurately forecast the movements of the CHEP equipment on loan to the customers, which in turn ensures the customer is correctly invoiced. The role also involves dealing with customer issues as and when they occur.
In regards to my future hopes I aim to continually develop and progress through the organisation, gaining exposure in all areas with the aim of eventually specialising in a particular area of the business.
