About the role

Job Purpose

To lead the Agency to its next stage of development, promoting awareness of the appeal and ensuring achievement of its key objectives and targets. To further develop core services and ensure that the Agency remains a key player on the national Catholic stage.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • To lead the strategic development of the Agency, developing strategic short, medium and long-term plans.
  • To manage the organisation’s performance against the overall strategic plan, making sure that the required plans and resources are in place.
  • To ensure the operational activities of the organisation are aligned with the values and strategic objectives of the Agency.

Awareness and Fundraising

  • To develop, manage and maintain a positive and dynamic image for the Agency and promote its image among appropriate audiences.
  • To develop and maintain effective networks, building strong relationships with key partners (such as Local Authorities, community churches, schools and private sector businesses).
  • To maximise the funding to the Agency, seeking new opportunities for fundraising and effectively facilitating the support and contribution from a network of supporters in different locations.

Financial Management

  • To perform the applicable duties of the Company Secretary, including preparation and submission of all required returns to statutory authorities.
  • To develop, manage and monitor the financial strategy for the organisation.
  • To be accountable for the preparation and the effective management of the organisation’s budgets and for maintaining robust financial control systems.
  • To ensure the Board of Governors receive regular financial updates and reports on the performance of the organisation as per the agreed timetable and requirements and that Governors are aware of the financial implications of decisions.
  • To work with the team, Governors and Chair to identify and develop major gift opportunities, taking the lead in establishing and maintaining relationships with High Net Worth individuals and organisations.
  • To ensure that the funds within the Agency are managed properly and prudently.
  • To maintain awareness of, and adhere to the laws relating to the role of Company Secretary.

Human Resources

  • To oversee all staff matters including recruitment, training & development and appraisals.
  • To ensure that members of staff perform in a manner consistent with the values of the organisation, maintaining equal opportunities, guidance and discipline.
  • To manage staff performance ensuring that staff achieve personal and organisation objectives and that development plans are in place to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that appropriate personnel management policies are maintained to conform to employment and equal opportunities legislation.
  • To conduct regular information update sessions with staff and maintain internal communications.
  • To lead a positive and motivating working environment and culture for staff where they feel engaged and committed.

Policy and Process Development

  • To maintain an awareness of applicable legislation and ensure the organisation is equipped and prepared to react to legislative changes with adequate policies and processes backed by training and information.
  • To assist the Board in the formulation of policy and strategic development and management, providing them with advice and information as required.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient implementation of all policies and programmes.
  • To ensure strict compliance with the Charity Commission’s rules and regulations and to ensure that the statutory requirements relating to all functions of the organisation are observed.
  • To ensure that organisational standards are established, monitored and reviewed with the Board with a view to continuous improvement and ensuring that the Agency is seen as a professional organisation at the forefront of the sector.
  • Such other duties in respect of Catholic Care (Diocese of Leeds) as the Bishop of Leeds, or the Agency may require the Chief Executive to undertake
