Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) are the centre of the NHS and get 75% of the NHS budget which is used to buy healthcare on behalf of the population for Buckinghamshire. Buckinghamshire PCT employs over 1,700 staff, serves a population of approximately 500,000 and holds a budget of over £600m. The PCT was formed on 1st October 2006 and builds on the foundations of its three predecessor PCTs - Vale of Aylesbury, Chiltern and South Bucks, and Wycombe.
