Business Link in the West Midlands improves the economic performance of the region by providing support to improve the competitiveness of existing businesses, increasing the number of new business starts and improving the skills of the workforce. It does this by utilising a budget of £50m per annum and by working with individuals and businesses through a wide range of partners and stakeholders.

However, Business Link is changing. It has ambitious plans to further stimulate the economic growth within the West Midlands and to be the prime business support agency in the region, delivering accredited Business Link services, both directly and through partners.

Business Link is therefore looking for dynamic, inspiring, natural leaders from the world of business to provide strategic direction as Chairman of the Non Executive Board and as Non Executive Directors.

Not only will the successful candidates have the opportunity to facilitate the exciting new approach to business support but also act as champions of Business Link at a local, regional and national level. For all appointments, experience and success at a senior level in the private sector is essential as is:

• Good understanding of the West Midlands economy
• Awareness of the region’s economic priorities and opportunities
• Credibility among the business community
• In the case of the Chair, experience of working with public sector partners is also required

For the role of Chair, a strong communicator is sought who is confident in complex public and private relationships who can:

• Help us meet our performance and budget targets
• Lead a new and dynamic board of Directors
• Act as a point of reference for contractors and customers
• Be a persuasive ambassador for the service

For the roles of Non Executive Directors, successful candidates will also act as an ambassador for the West Midlands and its business community. The roles of Non Executive Directors will require around 1-2 days per month – please note that the Non Executive Director appointments are not remunerated beyond reimbursement of expenses.
