Kiran King

Kiran Kang enjoys the finer things in life, so working for big-name jewellers Goldsmiths is just the ticket.

Kiran works for the Goldsmiths outlet at Heathrow’s Terminal 1 and is taking her retail apprenticeship at the same time. As a sales advisor, she is responsible for six brands in the store and knows their products thoroughly.

Kiran completed her education, leaving school with nine GCSEs, AS and A levels, but preferred to begin a career
right away rather than continue with further education. However, she is certainly dedicated to the work-based training that comes as part of her apprenticeship.

Kiran likes to learn new skills that are of practical use on a day-to-day basis, and she enjoys following an NVQ as it gives her a chance to gain both practical experience and a qualification.

Kiran has already completed her in-house training with Goldsmiths, focusing on customer service skills and health & safety.

As a sales advisor, Kiran is responsible for serving customers, telling them all about the products that feature in her portfolio. She takes on a variety of daily tasks; checking stock levels, receiving deliveries, cashing up, opening and closing the shop. She is also fully committed to various retail sales targets for her brands and makes sure that she is on track with her employers.

So far, Kiran has progressed well with her training, gaining her technical certificate and key skills exams. She has now begun work on her NVQ units and is studying
retail legislation in addition to the other areas covered by her apprenticeship.

About Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes. They offer employees the opportunity to enhance their skills through a combination of work-based learning and training.

There are two levels of Apprenticeship available:

  • Apprenticeship (Level 2)
  • Advance Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Both programmes lead to a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), a Key Skills Qualification and in certain areas, a Technical Certificate Award.
