Welcome
Thank you for your interest in working with Alexandra High School.
We aim to make learning exciting and involve pupils in as much decision making as possible. This is the overriding philosophy of the school. If you are committed to making a real difference in an urban area, then the Alex is the place for you!
The staff, both teaching and non-teaching, are the schools greatest asset. Many have been at the school for some time. None have stood still. This is a thriving school. We have a good mix of new and experienced staff who are good-humoured and very supportive. We also have a very caring team. The support for new colleagues is very good both in school and through Sandwell Local Authority, and is highly regarded nationally.
The school has been designated Sandwell’s first Full Service Extended School. This brings considerable additional funding to provide a whole range of out of hours activities for pupils and parents. We have raced ahead with this and are developing a nationwide reputation for out-of-hours learning. We have also been successful in acquiring other funds (for LIG, BIP and many other sets of initials!). We are not short of money! Recently we have been informed that the Alex is in the first round of the ‘Building Schools for the Future’ programme. This means that the school will be completely rebuilt and this will begin in 2008. It is an exciting time to join the school. We had a full OfSTED in October 2007 and the school was classed as satisfactory with good features.
Finally, Tipton itself is a thriving community. Unemployment is decreasing and there are plenty of opportunities for school leavers. There is an excellent community network that is committed to regeneration. The people of Tipton are rightly proud of the very real advances over the last few years.
There are exciting challenges ahead for the Alex. Our ethos is very positive. It is an excellent place to begin your career or develop it further. If you wish to discuss any of the above or wish to visit the school informally please contact us to arrange this. I have been at the Alex since September 2000 and after 30 years of teaching it is the best move I could have made.
